Hi people,
I have no doubt that there will come questions about this subject any time soon. I’ve experimented with sime pixel fonts and the new alias text option. I always follow these rules. I don’t know an other method, but if anyone knows, just post it.
- If you use pixel fonts, always use static text. The pixel font will be replaced by a standard font if you are on a computer which hasn’t got the pixel font installed.
- The new alias text options isn’t that great. It has one weakness. When you are using pixel fonts, do NOT click alias text. It will give your text a “blur” effect, which makes some fonts (especially pieces of text that have a large size, like 20 or higher) look better. But it will certainly mess up your pixel fonts. So do not use this option on your pixel font. The alias option should remove the “blur” effect over your pixel font text, but it only does that when your text is aligned on a actual pixel. So make sure it is not aligned on a decimal value. You can change the position of your text by pressing window -=> design panels -=> info. You can see a little “box” with 9 sqaures in it. There you can select middle or top left. You MUST set the symbol position point to top left. Your text will look blurred if you set it to the middle and change the values to actual pixels there.
- Do not scale your fonts to a odd size like 13 or 7. Use multiples of 8. That means: 8, 16, 24, etc.
- There is also a tutorial available @ http://www.kirupa.com/developer/mx/usingtext.htm.
- If you need good pixel fonts, you should go to http://www.dafont.com. There is a huge amount of fonts there, and they’re all free.
I think the new alias option in flash mx 2004 is a bit lame. It says it will make your text look sharp, even @ small sizes, but it doesn’t work for pixel fonts. If you have anything to add just post it here.
