Placement of "snow"

I did the snow tutorial, changing it to snowing up and want to place it inside another movie clip. However, whenever I change the X & Y of the snow instance, it appears to stretch the height of the snow movie (altering its appearance). I cannot move the other movie clip to the snow (which is located at the top of the stage) because it would run off the edge of the stage. Please help.
