Please Help with stupic linking problem

I am trying to link from a button within a movie clip within another movie clip to a schene in the same movie:

scene1
> mov clip
>mov Clip
>button > on (release) { _root.gotoAndPlay(“scene name”,1); }

I know this is the right script!! please help what am I doing wrong and is there a better way to link up schenes withing the same movie between themselves?

I am at work with no access to Flash, someone else will probably be able to help you before I get home… (posting twice is a cardinal sin at Kirupa btw, most people trying to help out will read both threads anyway)
