Why dont u start with the tutorial accompined with the software! 
Its really useful, Goto Help, then lessons, then getting started with flash!
if not: try buying a book! i think i found that book useful for my bro to get started with flash and actionscript, Foundation Flash MX by friends of ed, try searching for it in amazon.com
