I don't have a clue how to use flashmx... how did you start?

I dontt have a clue how to use flashmx2004. I’ve tried playing around w/ it and it seems so complex. I was wondering how everyone started out with it? Like what did you learn to do first? Did you use any e-books or stuff?

:beam:

Rev

in flash: Help>tutorials It will help you learn basic motion tween stuff.

edit: whoops… looks like it just links to subcategories in the thing the rev told you to go to… I havent tried it since flash 5. ::shrug::

lol… umm interesting… so thats how you people learned? i know how to use swishmax and thats alot easier and this is a bit more complicated…

so far i know how buttons work and how you can move an image…

Open Flash do the basic tutorials tween gradients, timelines in timelines etc

Get some tutorials on AS

get some fla’s of stuff you like the look of and try to figure out how the AS does what it does (start with simple ones)

I found it helped when I started with flash v2 or whatever it was back then before the days of Actionscript

yea it seems like actionscript plays a big role in flash… are they like the

mouse roll over then it goes to a link or something?

does flashmx2004 only have blur, drop shadow and a few other simple timeline effects? or are there more?

wait is AS written in C++? since it seems like it.

Sort of looks like JS to me but I suppose an apple looks like an onion if you never saw an orange before.

lol… umm javascript… i guess in a way… since the variables and stuff… well all languages are similar… i was just looking through the list of tutorials… i can do all of the first list ones… i dont like taking scripts since your not really doing it yourself… your taking the work of others but i guess its hard to write up something by yourself…

So you started out with tweens? Are there more timeline effects?

D@mn! this new vesion is so F88888G!! complex! i havent even learn a lot with the old version, and now… here comes the other version again.

Siggghh! i think I will never learn webdesigning, specially with using macromedia products. I’m so F88888G dumb and hopeless :( :( :*(

i’ve been trying to learn flash mx for a while but everytime i open the program i end up shutting it in 5 minutes… lol i dont have a clue what im doing… now im starting to pick it up… i think i got how to move an object and stuff but i dont know anything complex + i dont know action scripts at all lol

its ok Soul, when I first started out all i did was tweened animation and I would just try to make cartoon like things. once you get comfortable with the basics THEN you can start learning the more advanced stuff. I would suggest doing A LOT of the tutorials on this site, and don’t just do them - understand them. I believe there is a beginner section on the site. Once you do a lot of tutorials and you think you can start trying to make stuff yourself, start by trying to replicate things that you’ve seen. Obviously for educational purposes only. Right now the best way for me to lean new things is by looking at other peoples code, just to see how they have it structured and to see different techniques people use. It is a long trek, but if you put up with the crap in the start, it becomes rewarding very quickly.

heh… my friend told me to start out w/ more basic programs like flash 5 then flash mx and then flashmx2004… so im going to try that

After Reading all these posts above I am getting traumatized ,
is Mx version much more difficult than version 5???
Is it possible that it has changed so much ??

it’s not that hard, get a good beginner book and read it all. that’s what i did, i bought Foundation Flash MX as a complete n00b, and now i am in love with flash :smiley:

plus do the tutorials on this site, and read other people’s problems and how people help them with them

do NOT start with flash 5. If you would like to start with Flash MX then go for it, but do NOT start with flash 5, you will gain no advantage by starting it with it. If anything it will just be more confusing when you have to move on to Flash MX. Also - if you are using Flash MX 2004 Professional then I would suggestiong you Flash MX 2004 non-pro instead, because it is a lot easier than professional with strict data typing on AS 2.0. If I were you, I would go with Flash MX 2004 non-pro. if thats what you are using, if you keep at it you’ll eventually learn. Really though, don’t use flash 5, it will do more harm than good.

i’d start with mx 2004 because it and mx are pretty much the same, but mx 2004 has some more features. It has all of the same features, and supports the old (MX) way of doing things, and when you’re ready, you can start on the new ones.

I am flash user since version 4 ;
Currently I ´ve used Flash 5 , so too late for not to use it ;

You don’t need to use strict data typing and all that stuff in Pro, you can even use AS1 if you want.

Soul814: You go on another forum I used to visit :wink:
