I baught a 92 chevy, And the guy told me that nothing was wrong with it. The first day i got it, it stalled on me a couple of times. Then the air condition broke.
I brought it to sunoco to get fixed. It was there for 2 days. And it almost didnt get finished because they stareted it 2 hrs before i went to pick it up.
i went to sunoco, because he sent me there because he knows the people. I asked to get a sticker, and they only checked one thing, and passed the car. NO way in hell that could of passed. If i where to bring it to a different place, no way it would pass.
I brought it to Muffler and break today. It needs a 600 dollar break job. The guy said that i souldnt be driving it. I could of died or got in a searous accident. Thats how bad they are.
I got screwed.
Should i press charges against the gas station and the guy that sold me the car?
There’s something about cars being sold at gas stations that erks me. You should definitely press charges, who knows how many other people they screwed.
I’m going to talk to my parents about it. But since we are catholic, they don’t like the idea of pressing charges. I need to talk them into it. This guy needs to be stopped before this guy sells some one a car that isn’t safe, and they get injured or killed.
I’m really in a bad mood and I need some one to talk to. I’m in a real tough situation right now. I feel I got taken advantage of because of my age.
I think after 3 days it becomes “let the buyer beware.”
as RR said, before you buy any used car from anyone, have it inspected by an independent, unbiased, 3rd party mechanic you trust.
It is the used car salesman’s job to not tell you anything that is wrong with the car, unless you specifically ask about it. Also, keep in mind it is also the mechanic’s job at a gas station (their main source of business is gas, not working on cars) to up-sell you, and to do this, he may tell you the car is unsafe, and you need to get new brakes. I’m not saying either misled you. You were excited to get a new car, and may have ignored certain things as well…
chances are, chalk this up to experience, get a second opinion from an actual mechanic, not a gas station, and get your car fixed so you can have tons of safe fun…
rev, i brought the car to muffler and break. A place that my family has gone to for their cars. They gave me a free estimate. They dont know the salesman that sold me the sh** box.
Every state has, like RelandR said, lemon laws. The first thing I would do is, if you don’t have a laywer friend, call an ambulance chaser lawyer. They can’t give you free advice, but if they talk to you, you have a case.
The muffler and brake place telling you that you need $600 in repair is probably bs. Those places are notorious for telling you a caliper needs to be replaced when it’s perfectly fine. A good thing to remember with brakes is that there are tell-tale signs that tell you brakes have a problem - that’s how they’re designed - it’s a saftey feature with all breaks.
A couple examples are like when you hit the breaks, it will pull one direction; or your pedal goes to the floor, you still stop, but it’s mushy. If your rotors are bad, you’ll have grinding. If your shoes are bad, you’ll have a little clip (your year of car) that rubs the rotor to tell you your shoes are low (not gone, low). If a caliper goes bad, you won’t brakes for long at all, it’s a pnumatic system - depends souly on the pressure of liquid.
I had a Midas tell me that a clip, that comes factory bolted onto the brake shoe, was ‘extra hardware’ and would cost me an extra $20 per side. I did my brakes myself later that day for $35. The reason I went there is because they had a sale and I’m very lazy. That was about 4 years ago - I hate those places.
Find an Exxon or simular gas station that works on cars. usually you’ll find mechanics that are decent enough to tell you what is wrong with your car - and sometimes fix things for a case of beer instead of $600.
I actually work on my own car with my stepfather who has been a mechanic all his life. Even he tells me stories of how his company has ripped off people because they don’t know symtoms of car problems. Beware - sorry this post so long…

is that the new microsoft console??? uuuu i want one lol no honestly go to the guy and try to negotiate with him have you tried talkign to the guy and telling him how you feel??
If he doesnt cooperate with you then tell him youre going to get legal help im sure he will be pursuaded to negotiate
RelandR - I can’t believe that ‘spring test’ - That’s a new one for me, but I wouldn’t put it past those bastards!!
Alex - About the $600, you could use that quote to get the guy to buy the car back, or at least give you some money. I believe that ‘bad brakes’ would fall into the lemon law clause.
If not, do the breaks yourself - it is pretty easy - I still doubt the $600 thing. And as for going to get your car fixed at a dealer - that will be even more expensive. Dealers just charge a lot more than standalone shops.
