Print Basics

There is a chance that I will be taking a new job soon. The employer wants me to do both web and print, which I’m OK with. I’m getting pretty good with Illustrator, and Photoshop is like an extension of my body:P The only thing I’m worried about is that I haven’t been involved in the actual printing process before. I haven’t done a lot of print period actually. So I have a few questions for you print guys out there:

  • What do print shops usually expect from you? File type? DPI? CMYK/RGB? Etc?
  • Any good links?
  • They are using Quark, but I have heard Indesign is better and more of an industry standard. Am I right?

Thanks guys,

SR

that shirt post is awesome! i just might get some shirts printed on that is chance for the prepress people at the printers exactly they can learn very much . example what file they need and what resolution.

dear its depend on the printing service, but dont worry about this, its not a big issue, but mostly printing companies demand the ai files or psd file, but in print plz dont forgot to creat the text outline, RGB and CMYK its depend on the printing type. PANTON colors are also here in printing.
