Puzzle that made me puzzled :)

I am fairly new to this flash thing. I tried to create a flash puzzle that really became a headach for me. You can see this puzzle at:
http://geocities.com/sherly_isaac/puzzelflash.swf

The pieces are moving slowly that I could correct by setting the quality to low.

But now the problem is, when I arrange all the pieces, I found that some of the pieces were missing and some of the pieces are not locking. I tried to enlarge the movie area to find all the pieces but still 1 or 2 pieces missing. How can I correct this problem? How to set the boundery for pieces so that they should stay inside that area? Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks
Sherly
++Strange that I cannot even post a link of wonderful site++ :q: :*(

Well, how do you put them on the screen in the first place?

What do you mean? The pieces? I did not cut into pieces but I used masking on a big picture. I created every piece(mask) then I put that mask on the picture and applied mask. And the center point of every piece is same. Is it clear?

Thanks
Sherly

I wouldn’t do it like that if I were you. That’s why the movie is lagging so much.

Instead, I would cut all the pieces (that way you’re sure to have them all), and use _dropTarget with each piece of the puzzle. Tutorial here: http://www.kirupa.com/developer/actionscript/dragdrop.asp but you’ll have to change the behaviour a bit (if you drop the piece on the right target, it snaps into place).

No need to double post, sherly. I deleted the post in the Flash 5 section.

I am sorry for late reply. Well, I know the method you told me but I think, if I make my puzzle with that method, I may not be able to change the image of puzzle? And the other reason is it is very hard work to cut every pieces seperately. Do you know any method to cut the pieces in Flash or in paint shop pro.?

I have posted new puzzle with good speed in my website at http://geocities.com/sherly_isaac/cardinal_new.swf But it has the same problem of not locking and some pieces are missing. I read in macromedia’s website on tech-notes that, if MC is in the mask layer then it does not lock correctly. But I could not find any solution at that page for it.

Anyway, I am wondering that how you survived in this forum with all your harry potter stuff?

Thanks and God bless
Sherly

i thought there was an easy way to cut images in PSP…i never use it though so i wouldn’t know. having a separate picture for each thing would make it run faster…and if you name the concecutively…like pic1, pic2, etc. you can import them easily as well…you could make a script that creates empty clips then attachs the pics on to them. that would make it a lot easy to modify when u change the graphic…

I’m sorry Sherly, but I really don’t know how to help you. My advice would be to look for the same kind of application on the net (Flashkit or such) and figure out how they did it.

Good luck.
