Quantum entanglement

Quantum entanglement…
Doesn’t something there have to break the law that nothing can travel faster than light ?

Ok I was reading this article the other day and it got me thinking about entanglement again.

When two particles are entangled, they could be on opposite sides of the universe and altering the state of one, changes the state of the other.

So in theory this could be used to transmit data from one side of the universe to the other instantaneously. But then you would be transmitting data faster than light and it can’t be done.

So have I confused myself about entanglement, or can someone explain whats the deal here ?
