I’m feeling more comfortable with Flash and actionscript now thanks to great resources here at Kirupa. Please review my latest work and shoot me a few constructive criticisms or any comments. Thanks all.
like the colours, agree about the menu, on firefox the white box in the middle remains a white box, I don’t think this is intentional. Defintely need pics in there.
nice & simple but like I say you defintely need pics in there
thanks guys. frame rate is 12fps… i’ll crank it up and see what hapens.
i’ve had problems viewing my flash works on firefox before… i don’t know what could be the problem. i fixed it before by changing how xml was referenced. i should go back and check the codes again.
i really appreciate the input guys.
edit: hmm… i can see the images on my firefox… except the first image and when it loops, the first image is blank again. does anyone have any suggestions on browser compatibility issues?
It worked the second time i viewed it wierd (the images showing up) although map loaded up nice probably seperate code. and change the color of your load bar.
i think it’s important to first consider the likely main objectives of a thai restaurant website:
show menu (preferably with photos)
show hours/phone number/address/link to map
that being said, here are a few things i would consider changing (in no particular order):
html <title>
wording by the phone number in the top left
bump up the font size for the phone number
in all spots where address is listed, include a link for a mapquest, yahoo, or google map
put monthly specials on the homescreen, not just a link to it
either put the nav in alphabetical order or put “menu” first
get rid of the “clear panel” button
it’s confusing having 2 navigations for the user to reconcile
fix or ditch the crappy and/or pixelated photos
add icons for the credit cards
all that being said, i don’t think the site’s terrible. it only really took me a few guesses to get the information i wanted. fortunately, you could remove a lot of that guessing and user uncertainty with a few small changes i mentioned earlier. how you present the menu will probably make or break the site in my opinion.
html <title>
this isn’t the permanent spot for the website. it’s still going through edition/addition.
wording by the phone number in the top left
are you talking about “On Display:”? Yeah… it didn’t sound right when I came up with it… it was late and I just didn’t think to change it. how about… "Showing an Image of "?
bump up the font size for the phone number
Sounds good.
in all spots where address is listed, include a link for a mapquest, yahoo, or google map
Another good point.
put monthly specials on the homescreen, not just a link to it
So have the monthly specials open initially… that’s a good idea.
either put the nav in alphabetical order or put “menu” first
I don’t particularly agree with this… since it IS a business and I wanted to “introduce” the restaurant to customers. Perhaps doing something to highlight “menu” would work?
get rid of the “clear panel” button
I initially wanted to clear the whole right side orange panel and enlarge the image. What do you think about that?
it’s confusing having 2 navigations for the user to reconcile
The scroll nav was my first idea but I didn’t want it taking up too much space hence the rolling of the scroll. Then I realized it’d be a hassle to keep opening and closing the scroll, so the second set of nav appears on the bottom when scroll is closed. Now, I’m thinking the scroll is just more for show if the user chooses to open it and say “awwww” for a split second.
fix or ditch the crappy and/or pixelated photos
the photos are actually not from the restaurant… i’m waiting for a chance to take some high res pictures.
well, i was referring to the … for Deliveries - after 5PM - or Reservations. do they only deliver after 5pm or can i only call that number after 5 or is it something else? the image wording could be better but it’s not awful. possibly "Now showing: " or something like that.
well, i would refer to the 2 things i think are most important for restaurant websites as i posted before. in my opinion, the best way to introduce a restaurant is by menu options and price because that’s how i categorize restaurants in my mind. so looking at a restaurants menu is all the introduction i need to make my decision. people are coming to the site for a very limited number of reasons and background info about the restaurant isn’t one of them. if they stumble upon that, great, but it should never get in the way of accessing the menu or purchase information.
i think “clear panel” is confusing and not really intuitive. if you want an enlarge image link, i think it should go right next to the description in the top left (both of which could be moved to the bottom left so as to not interfere with the contact info).
like i said, i think you’ve got a good start and in fact, a pretty usable site. now it’s time to take it to the next level where it’s all intuitive.
Oh that! They only deliver after 5 PM. I changed the wording to “deliveries (only after 5PM)”.
I tried highlighting “menu” in a couple of ways and nope… it looks tacky. You have a good point there, so, I changed the nav item order.
The image caption was originally at the bottom right, but, for some forgotten reason I placed it on top left. It definitely looks better on bottom right. and “clear panel” was changed to “enlarge image”
