If you’ve been a regular visitor to Kirupa over the past 3 or 4 years you will have undoubtedly either been helped by one of the moderators, Gert, who went by the moniker ‘Scotty’ or at the very least read numerous threads in which he’s been a part of.
I first ‘met’ Gert when I was trying to get my head around building an xml driven photo gallery. I was at my wits end. He was unbelievably patient and helped and guided me through the whole process, sending me .flas checking my source, putting me right and overall having the patience of a saint. He was truly a great guy, selfless and always there to lend a hand
Subsequently we went onto work together up until a year ago which is when he was diagnosed with cancer. He put up a very brave fight but he lost his battle yesterday, Feb 14.
I feel it would be very apt if the members of this board who had similar contact with Gert clubbed together and dedicated a floral tribute for the funeral and raised contributions for Yvon, his partner. I am happy to be the main point of contact, gather the monies and order from the florist. I’ve just heard the news so have not had time to work out the best way to go about this so any ideas are welcome.

Feb 16 - Collecting Payments
Hi All,
Having slept on it and unless anyone can think of a better idea I’m happy to use my PayPal account to collect donations.
Is everyone in agreement that from the donations we send a floral tribute asap and the remainder of the money is given to Yvon to help her in some small way through this very difficult time. It would be good to have some help re. ordering the flowers if there are any Dutch speakers on the board willing to lend a hand.
My goodness…this is unreal. I havent been here for a while, so sorry to hear this horrible news. My condolences to his friends and family, and his partner in particular.

I just came across this thread now and i am so sad reading about this great loss to his family and friends. GOD bless his soul and i am sure he is resting up in the new fun city as it says under his location under his last post.
just shows the guy’s attitude towards life. He will be missed greatly.
I recently stumbled across different posts from scotty…I rarely saw someone help in a gentler and more encouraging way. I haven’t been around that long but I wish to express my condolences to all his friends, family and everybody who cared about him and who he cared about.
I tip my fez to you scotty, whereever you are right now.
I seem to remember scotty helping me or something a long time ago. If he’s half as nice as he’s remembered, I’m sure he’s in a better place.

I´ve been a regular here in Kirupa for the last 3-4 years, until this year I´ve been full of work and visit the forums once per week or month. I just notice these thread, it has been a terrible shock for me, Scotty help me a LOT and I have to thank him because in the position I´m now with my company is in part thanks to his knowledge in flash, he helped me resolve and learn a lot of things I use now.
I feel bad because it has been 5 months since his departure and just today I know about this, but today I write these to show him my gratitude, one of the best mods ever, I´m sure he is in a great place now, still watching the forums and reading all these nice comments.
I haven’t used the forums in a good while, and I’m shocked to hear this.
