Roku’s $2.99 Howdy has apparently crossed 1M subscribers, which feels pretty on-brand for a world where everyone’s tired of paying premium prices for 14 different apps.
1M at $2. 99 is less “new Netflix” and more “nice little tollbooth, ” but that’s kind of the point—Roku doesn’t need prestige, it needs a cheap bundle-able add‑on that reduces churn across the rest of its ad/OS business. The interesting part is what happens when every platform copies the $3 tier and we’re right back to managing 14 apps, just with smaller numbers.
