Serious question

Right im new to flash mx (about 5 months self taught)
My site is here:

I basically wanna know (as i have no tutor to ask) how do you two very commonly seen effects.
1:Graphic objects which draw themselves in from a point
(such as a nav bar for instance which appears small at first and then draws itself across the stage?) its not done with scaling as that wouldnt produce same effect so hows it done???
2: blur and flickering effects , though i suspect thats done with actionscript? am i correct?
any way hope someone can answer the first question as i really want to know how you do that!!

I think it can be done in Photoshop.

This nav bar in point one… Can you show us an example of that? Is it something that starts small and becomes larger? Or something that builds a bit at a time?

Blurring effects are a bit different. What are you trying to do? I know of a cheats way to make something blur…

How do you do flickering and blurring animation in photoshop??
i have photoshop but have not seen that function, although i must say i am a photoshop novice so maybe that escaped me…

is one of many examples of grahic objects appearing by being drawn on the stage rather than animating across it!!
And as for cheats way of doing blur , care to share your secret.
Could do with a learning any new tricks…

It’s very simple really. You have a start/finish state of the image you want to blur. Then you have a motion blurred image to use inside the tween. So it’s pre-blurred, if you will. Then when you create the motion tween, the object looks like it’s going really fast.

I probably haven’t explained this very well…

the flickering can be done in flash, you just need to play around with things like alpha tweens. You can simply use something like a white shape such as lines with a mask of the shape of the objects and just motion tween or shape tween the white lines with some alpha. And the blurred effects, i would make it like kit said, you actually can get some nice effects using these types of methods.

Hope this helps

Oh and the thing that looks like it is drawn, well this is a intresting one, because of the way it comes in , its not a simple frame by frame animation,

what i think it is , is probably initially a shape tween so to tween those curves in, reason i think this , is because the shape right at the start looks squashed into straight lines, and then expands to the curves. They probably used some shape hints as well(shape hints are basically start and end point you can add to make your tween look more the way you want)

then from the shape tween it is either using a mask that is animated across to reveal the straight lines. Either that or you can make Drawn look effect with frame by frame animation, which is basically having the image, then breakin it apart, then keyframing a few times of the image in its completed look, then from the last frame back you slowly delete sections of the graphic which gives it the look of it being drawn in.

well i have spent all morning fidling with flash mx to try to get some results…
and hoorah, i did it.
Im sure there are better ways of doing it but i figured the best easy way seems to be to use a shape tweened mask for slowly uncovering detailed graphics.
(as detailed grahics are to hard to tween corretly)
Oh Kitiara tried that blur thing and it works really well thanks for the tip…
Thanks for the help guys…
