Should I be using XML?

I have put Flash MX on the back burner for a good while but I now need to make up a portfolio website (ie thumbnails with links to larger files plus a small description, etc). I remember the basics of Flash but that is all so I need links to tutorials that will help me go about this the right way. I could just put everything on keyframes/scenes, etc, but I’ve got an inkling that there is a better way. IE XML??

Can anyone give me advice or links to tutorials that will help me achieve what I need in the quickest time possible??
