Silent.gear v. UNFLUX

thanks, glad you like it. =)

the shadow was a headache because it didn’t look 100% correct to me either, no matter where I put it or how much opacity. The intent is just to show its mass, and obviously the light is irrelevant in that regard, since anything of mass would cast a natural shadow anyway. So that’s the effect I was going for. But after 4hrs or so, I figured it was time to let it go and move on to something else. And just for the record, I used 4 other images to create this volley. =)

Overall, I’m really happy with it. It’s not often the first thing that comes to mind is what comes to be with these things. It looks pretty much exactly the way I envisioned it, the moment I picked out that steeple in yours.

Great, I can’t wait to see your return. :beam:

one way you couldve done it is get the city and rock and copy it and merge the copied layer. next, change the threshhold to black and blur it, than skew it, than change the opacity to make it look like a real shadow…get wat i mean?

yeah i do, thanks. That method never crossed my mind, I should try it here…

I was looking at the shadow and thinking that it would have looked better if you painted the shadow in, since you were dealing with the rolling hills. The closest hill was probably far enough from the city that either the whole thing would be covered in shadow or none of it would be, the shadow you used would be the right size for the middle hill, and the far away hill would be a small area covered in shade.
Just some suggestions, I still thought the picture was amazing. Nothing i could have thought up! The light in the picture is just great.

For of all you are forbiddin. :stuck_out_tongue:

Second of all haven’t you seen Sonic the Hedgehog??? If you have haven’t you seen the floating island??? You never actually saw the source of it’s power unless you went inside it.

no problem unflux…battles are also good to help each other out and not just showing skills off.

OK i fixed the shadow up a bit. I hope that’s ok. I’m thankful for the feedback because it looks so much better now.

I also put together a gallery for the battle:

hey unflux - link’s broken!

hey…thx for the gallery m8. btw…where can i see your newly made shadow.

what part of the world are you in? I changed dns 2 days ago so maybe you still don’t see it? :h:

I just swapped em silent, it should be there now. In the thread here and in the gallery. I love having a gallery, gives a nice snapshot of our work.

haha, im in boston, i can see from your location thats pretty far away  I dont know… not even unflux.com shows up on my comp. I posted that i didnt see your sig before but deleted it because it started showing up. So I dont know… I wonder what it is?

ya i see it unflux…that looks better.

definitely dns. your isp’s routing cache must be slow. It should show up in a few hrs.

thanks

oh… yeah… my thoughts exactly…

haha, as a web design major youd think id understand anything you just said! :afro: <- seemed appropriate

lol, moncrey, when you switch your dns it can take up to 48 hours to propagate through the world’s isp’s…it’s all he’s saying, hope UNFLUX will correct me if I’m wrong

BAH FINALLY! at 1:46 AM your new picture finally loads! Youre right it does look better, it fits now. Nice work, dude.

P.S. I promise i wasnt up this late because i wanted to see a shadow! Although i know how cool that would make me.

This is my final serve. To let you guys know, UNFLUX’s last serve was really hard to manip, so instead, i just added clouds on top and some coloring and the pixiedust in the middle. o and the number 7 is right next to the dot. enjoy this very pleasant and simple piece. Unflux, i had a really great time battling you and hope we get to do it again sometime.

Wow, I really don’t think there can be a winnner for this battle. It’s like two crazy warriors dueling to the death with their last blows cutting eachothers heads off.

Well not exactly, but I think both your vollies have been very very well done. Cheers to you both!

nice job to both of you. :thumb:
