i’m still a novice to flash but you’ll have to excuse me if I try and run before I can walk. I’m trying to find out how I can create buttons that would slide images across the screen as seen on www.djshadow.com.

Use scroller masks! You have one long mc and as you click the buttons on top you tell the mc to move to the next frame. The animation is produced by the mask. Hope this helps!
