Hi guys,
I have a few flash apps I would like to skin, anyway Ive never really gone far from doing my skins in flash and photophop but I would like to be able to produce some nice 2d skins like those designed for winamp etc…
Just some feedback or recommendations much appreciated
=)
I’m sorry what are you looking for; apps to skin or apps that skin ?
If your skinning for winamp3 (2 is alright, all you have to have is a few basic photoshop skills) then you have to learn xml too and work around with color changers, transparency, drawers and etc - which is a lot of coding around…
www.skinbase.org
Thats a link to one of the skinning communities that I can think of off the top of my head. You should find what you’re looking for there. (there are plenty more communties like that around)
Thanks guys. Yeah Im look for apps to draw the graphics, and I was refferring to winamp skins because there the sorts of graphics i want to produce. And there are no specific app to do ‘skining’ as such is their? Its just for designing the graphic of the skin right??
You only need a graphic app like photoshop to do “skinning”. Basically you’re drawing the graphic elements of a program and using XML to define which portions of the graphic go where and what function they have. I’ve never done it so I can’t offer any really useful advice. I’ve done a little VB programming with win API code and I take my hat off to those who can make the initial code to use the skins… it’s not an easy thing to do.
If your looking for the W2 skinning effects, then I advise you to download lots of them and unzip the zip containing the files, and try to play around with them…
The nice skins however (3d ones) are done with 3DS, viewed at a certain angle your pic will have the size of the skins, there are a lot of templates around, just use google…
The only skin I made for W2 was done in paint… Was quite nice actually…
Go to the winamp site… they have (or at least a while ago when I did one) information on everything involved in skinning - except the design and creation process
They tell you how to make your creation work… dimentions, file names, etc.
I’d use PS myself to create it… but you can use pretty much anything.
Peace
