Splitting Arrow

Hey guys,
What I’m trying to do is relatively simple. I want to have an arrow that enters a frame and splits into two arrows, one of which curves back upward. The tough part is having a transparency on the arrow. The arrow is representing a ray of light, so the transparency is necessary, otherwise it’d be really simple. And without the arrow head, it’d be as simple as having a mask that has a tweening underlying layer. But with the arrowhead, you’re able to see overlap between the arrowhead and the trail underneath it, which doesn’t look so great.

Other than snipping off pieces of the trail frame by frame, I can’t think of any other way to do this. Is there a way to keep the arrow head and its trail from overlapping? I’ve attached a sample file to dissect.

Thanks in advance!
