So I would love to use VBulletin, but they only support MySQL… silly people.
I have SQL Server on my server and need to find a solid forum that runs on it. Any suggestions?

yea, phpBB would be a good choice then.
but imo using MSSQL is never a good idea :sigh:
phpBB is good - free, easy to set up, highly customisable. well recommended.
phpBB is a pretty good product.
Here are my reasons to use a PHP forum with an MySQL database regardless of the setup you currently have.
Forums are all text/string based. There is a lot of string manipulation going on which PHP is supperior at handleing.
PHP interfaces with MySQL better than any other database system. So, if you are going to use something writen with PHP then you shouldn’t limit it by using a non MySQL database.
I say this as a strong Microsoft supporter. I write 90% of my applications in Microsoft specific languages for Windows servers.
I appreciate the feedback thus far, but again I stress that it’s not a matter of MySQL or MSSQL. I have MSSQL on my server and have no plans on switching to MySQL.
It’s a shame you don’t want to switch… It’s not like you have to pay for MySQL
Though being new to this, I couldn’t tell you the difference between the to.

You can run both. I own a web server that I sell hosting on and I have both MySQL and MSSQL running. I use MySQL for all the bulletin boards I have running and I use MSSQL for the custom web based applications I have built. Most of my customers are using MySQL for thier sites because most of them came from Linux / Unix hosts and there sites were already built around MySQL. The performance hit you will take by running MySQL is about non-existant.
My set-up doesn’t get much better than what I have now and I don’t want to push it. I have a dedicated web-server and a dedicated New DELL server strucly pushing the MSSQL database. I get all of this for a very low rate, oh and I have 24 hour tech support cell numbers.
Also all my sites are talking to MSSQL databases, I don’t want to have to deal with the headache of trying to talk to both servers.
Here is a free ASP forum I found that uses either Access or MSSQL http://www.webwizguide.com/web_wiz_forums/default.asp?mode=asp
