all these n00bs coming on and asking how to make a game like this or like this …
ok when I started game programming I started with a knowledge in as already and I started with a simple game (frogger).
And lately I have seen all these people just join the boards and say they are new to game programming and want to make an rpg, or GTA, and the most annoying thing is when they ask about walls or objects… you know stuff the hit test tutorial covers
GUYS USE THE SEARCH ENGINES! THEY ARE THERE FOR A REASON!
When you cant find what you are searching for thats when you post here.
(Edit: note that I am a newb but I started off simple and I use the search feature everyday)
skinny_t’s inspiration wasnt gta… it was just driving a car… when you came on and said you wanted to do gta i was thinking you were gonna make a game just like gta… not just drive a car
and if you did finish the game then Grats for you and i wanna see it…
anyways I never considerd you a n00b…
ok sorry hey are you still working on the frogger like thing?
because i mean how many people are samrt and make a game i have yet to see mutible times in this forum like your frogger everyone wants to make rpg’s jeeeez
im in the process of getting the bugs out then i will draw the cars and road…
after i finish i plan on redoing it and i have alot of ideas for it
(multiplayer, character selection…)
before i can get a multiplayer i have to have my server working again though
Basically… I started off in Flash… My first project was to make a hitBlock type game. I succeeded… But that was because I had past knowledge of C++…
I would have to agree that it is rather difficult seeing alot of new people trying to take on projetcs well over there head… And I do think that everyone should start off small. But they won’t… And they will continue to struggle most likely… And on top of that… They will most likely get mad because you can’t help the… Even though you practically gave them everything they need to know…
I, like I will be doing again soon, have made tutorials for game programming… But they are just guides… To help…
allright Weazol u made ur poing (i know u were half talking to me) but when i asked help for my game its cuz i worded it wrongly. i dont think i mean rpg. its more like a point and click game. like a story path that you choose with multiple endimgs. nothing much. right now i just need help on the inventory and a menu.
Btw i am a noob, i wont shoot low, and i think its fine. i find out a lot of stuff by just trying to get something to work. and i have turned to kirupa only because i couldnt find nething on the search engins
i was not half talking to you… i was just talking in general to everyone…
and i was not talking about search engines, im talking about search the kirupa site for a tutorial, and search the kirupa forums for help, the post… i imagine there is a tutorial on kirupa somewhere for inventory
signifer123: Weazol’s right, all that is is just driving around. Basically by using the _rotation code. It could spread into something like gta but It’s far from that. And that took me months to make(on and off that is). You need to understand that basics first. Like making a ball move around the screen and have a block which when the ball goes over it a message pops up and says “Hittest works!!!” or something like that. One thing that really helped me in flash was the reference. I can’t remember how many times that thing has helped me
ya see i for some reason couldn’t figure out how to do the get into car and out of car because i didn’t know how to make two triggers to activate on thing until i looked at my book at home
Its really the same the world over, somebody wants to say…play the guitar like jimmy hendrix, but they dont realise they need to learn the basics first.
Pointing them the right way is good.
I dont think telling them not to post is a good idea, if I got told that when I was a newbie, I wouldn’t continue with flash. Just give them a link to the appropiate material, if they learn something, and then they return, it gives the forum even more skilled people, which is always good.
that is what the forums are for. And if you guys are better than us newbs, whats the harm in helping us? O - i get it having someone looking up to ur advice must be painstakingly annoying and sooo hurtful. (yes that is sarcasm)
