I got an early copy from a friend who works @ a local game store. All I can say is, BUY IT. (even if you need a new video card). This game is INTENSE. If you think Resident Evil or Silent Hill are scary… wow. You’re in for a trip. Anyone else tried it out yet? I’ve logged a good two hours.
I wasn’t the biggest fan going into it. I was more looking forward to HL2 and such, but after witnessing this, I think I’ve got a new favorite game of the last couple years. The presentation is AWESOME. From the menu’s, to the animated and HIGHLY interactive computer screens, everything is polished. Props to ID on this one. Score another for the home team.
According to [H]ardOCP, you don’t really need a powerful system to enjoy the game. They said the game plays extremely well on 640x480: http://www2.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NjQ0 (contains a ton of graphs, screenshots, and comparisons)
I will hold out until another, less-scary, game based on the Doom 3 engine comes out instead
Now, if Doom has a co-op mode for the campaign, that would be excellent! It’s less scary when you tag behind your partner(s) who get devoured, mauled, slashed, shot at, jumped, etc. by demons instead
Co-op is always nice. Developers have a habit of not putting co-op on PC versions (grrrrr) because the network code would be so hard to implement, and it’s slightly impossible to have two people on the same computer (unless, of course, you get two USB mice and some crazy drivers).
Consoles, on the other hand, don’t need networking code. Yay!
I do hear that the Doom3 engine is quite awesome on any GeForce3, 1.5 Ghz and above system. Anything greater than that are supposed to just get you past 30fps on max quality. And as flash dev’s, we all know what kind of difference fps past 30 makes.
Man I also remember the first time I got my hands on that game. About a year ago, it was so intense, like you said. I couldn’t believe the elaboration of detail on the characters, totally extreme!
Ah it was like a beta. It was called Alpha. It was funny, the menu’s didn’t work, you had to open console and command your way into the game. And it was only one mission, but still enough to make your pants moist
