Syncing sound

Hi,
Im making a small movie, and would like to make the animation move to the music, sort of headbang to a song

Is there a tutorial about it in kirupa.com?
I´ve searched, but didnt find anything.

:puzzle:

basically, when syncing sound, you just need to include the sound in the timeline (usually in its own layer) and have it synced as a “streamed” sound in the properties menu. That way the sound will be setup to match the animation created with it in other layers - and scrubbing the timeline will actually let you hear the audio as well… and previewing in Flash (not testing) using ENTER can give you immediate feedback.

Ühmmm

Can you take that again in n00bish language? :beam:

import the sound you want to use with
File > Import

That sound will go in your library panel.

Next make a new layer for your sound to reside. You can do this with the file menu and Insert > Layer or by using the icon at the bottom of the timeline.
if the layer is only one frame long, you may want to extend that by adding frames. Click on the frame in the layer and hit F5 or use Insert > Frame.

This will then extend the frames in the layer to be… longer. Once you get like three frames, its then easier just to take the mouse and drag the frames out longer that way.

Once you have a decent amound of frames for your new audio layer, with that layer highlighted as the ‘selected layer’ or active layer, find the sound in your library and drag it onto the screen as you would any other symbol - and yes, on the screen and not the timeline. Releasing will give you your sound in the sound layer you created (and hopefully had selected). In the frames of that layer is a wave form showing a visual representation of that sound.

Now select the first frame of that layer where the frames, and your audio file, starts. In the properties panel, in the column of options starting with sound, theres a Sync: option. By default, this is event. What you want is “stream.” So using the pull down menu next to Sync:, select ‘stream.’

Now, if you drag the playhead of the timeline back and forth (the red rectangle in the frame numbers) you can hear your sound play! This is called scrubbing the timeline. With this, you can now create further layers for animating to that sound.

Here is a file with a small example buried in its library.

There are some other things in there as well, feel free to learn from them. The sound sync example is in the library under

animation > cat lipsync army of darkness > cat talking anim

Its just some weird cat thing lipsyncing to an audio clip from a movie
