I would like to start making some cool text images using photoshop, but where do i go about making the text, like where do i start?

I’m new to making text images, but not new to using photoshop, i’m just now looking into it.

Hit some tutorials first … all tutorial sites will have some tuts on cool text effects… I hope Kirupa might have some…

You can rasterize the text and play with filters… but PS is a huge piece of software to play with… so start now :pac:

ur footer is 40 pixels too high

hey u2k, what kind of text images do you want to make?

if you mean images only made of text, use Illustrator if you have it.
If you mean cool images that happen to use text, just make your stuff and then add the text in photoshop (using the text tool).

you can do quite a bit in photoshop with text, especially once you start playing with layer styles.
it all depends what you actually want to do.

Check out this site and let us know if this is what you are talking about.

I think the answer to your question is this;

File -> New (select the size, resolution, background color, etc)

I like to double click the background layer and click yes to unlock it.

Just click the Text Tool and PS will automatically make it a text layer once you start typing.

You can just start typing and the box will enlarge to fit your text, or you can make a text box the size you want.

Then you apply the fx to that text. (I always make a dup of the layer and hide it. If I don’t need it, then I delete it or just go to “flatten image” and say yes to delete hidden layers).

Did that answer your question?

Yes, thanks for the help people. Just trying to make a cool logo, so i will get to work later today. :geek:

Alright, making text in photoshop is too confusing for me, not to mention a little weird. So i think its best for me, if i go the easy route.

I use AAALogo software to make some text images and open them up on photoshop and add my effects. I also enjoy editing psd photo images with text in them, you know editing them.

Peace.

Yeah, I agree.

Until I took PS at the local college I stayed completely away from Fonts in PS, because it was too confusing.

It is a lot easier now that I know how to work with them.

I think it is better in Illustrator, do you have that?

I was just looking at the website, looks great, but i dont think i can use it. I’m running windows 98 se. My wife has xp, but she use it for her business, not to do anything on it, might play a few games on it, but other then that windows 98 se, we use the most. I actually think its better then windows xp too, its more stable.

When I had 98se I thought the same thing. But since I installed XP Pro I have to say that it is better than 98se.

A lot has to do with the new programs that like XP better than 98. I have no problems with XP Pro.

I held onto 98se for a loooong time. Three months ago I updated my wife’s computer from 98se to XP Home and she loves it. (especially since it went from a p3 350 to a p4 2.8 with a gig of memory :thumb: )

PS- CS2 takes a lot of horsepower especially with the new “bridge”. In fact, most of the new programs require a lot “under the hood”.

Keep saving your pennies because IMHO it is worth updating.

.

Well i have to keep windows 98 se, because i run my own abandonware site and forum and i have over 350 pc games, about 80% of them are old classic games. I use my wife’s computer for business, but overall windows 98 se is alot better.

Now i understand some games that are coming out requires xp and not windows 98 , but those games i just buy for xbox. Also on a last note, reinstalling windows is so much easy then it is on xp. Only takes about 15mins to reinstall, and another 15 to install and update the drivers.
