The Macromedia Flash Detection Kit

I’m using the official Macromedia Detection Kit, and I’m at the point where I’m creating the “index.html” page (the very 1st page the viewer sees on my web site, where Flash detection occurs). This may sound stupid, but here are my questions:

  1. Should this page have graphics on it, and what should it say? e.g., something like, “Searching For Flash Plugin.”
  2. Does the detection take place so quickly that the page should be left blank, no graphics, no text.?
  3. I have also chosen the “Load Alternate URL” (a page I MAKE with buttons whereby the viewer can click to link to the Macromedia site to install/update Flash Player. Isn’t this better than automatically being routed off my site to the Macromedia site?
  4. I HAVE NOT checked the “Require Latest Plug-in” box. My thinking is: why should I care if they have the latest updated plugin, I have the Macromedia Flash Version set at 6.0 so all they need is the 6 plugin to see my site. Is this the way to go?
  5. The “Don’t use auto-update” box. Does this ONLY kick in if the previous (“Require Latest Plug-in”) box is checked OR should this box be checked With the first box unchecked??? (since I don’t want to do any automatic updating of things without viewer permission).
Thanks for any suggestions and help–I’ve never been here, done this before…
