hey all. Not sure If there’s a thread roving our forum about this one yet, but I checked this out from zao’s footer, and thought it kinda needed a little more conversation…
I think this thing has been knocking around theregister.co.uk for the last few days/weeks, with conversations concerning the BBC’s iPlayer, with Tiscali stepping into the ring too, saying that if the BEEB didn’t wanna contribute to it’s higher bandwidth charges, then it’ll have to recoup somewhere else, or drop bandwidth levels for high usage customers…
Any thoughts would be appreciated, but this stuff is kinda scary. Couple that with the two tier email system that has been touted around by american corporations in the recent 12 months, and it all adds up to one scaremongerers dream…:jail:
Not just us mate. Imagine when ISP’s across the world see this as a test case, and realise they could do exactly the same thing to you, or him, or her…
The internet is at risk here…
oh, and here’s Google’s spin on the issue… Link is from a Fester posting…
It’s as simple as that. My provider rocks, but as soon as they start charging for random stuff or shaping traffic, I’ll move to a new provider. Virgin’s business plan is a planned failure.
