I hate Comcast

So I sleep in my living room allot in the summer because that is where my big fat air conditioner is. I always sleep with the TV on too. Well I wake up this morning and the TV is not working. Every channel I change to is nothing.

So I think, yeah thats strange and go to check my email before work. Nothing. That is down too. No activity on my cable modem.

So I figure I will call when i get to work. I spend 45 minutes on hold before I get to a rep. They tell me after a few minutes that even though my bill is current the “computer” shut off my services and it is going to be a close to $30 reconnect fee on my next bill.

I frigging lost it. I demanded I speak to her supervisor and after arguing with her, got my crap reinstated with no fee.

What the hell. I have never even been late on a payment in six years.

Correct me if I am wrong, but is that not extortion?

A-holes.

Bumped, for Anogar

lol nice… i just read his post and seen this 2 posts down. i still hate comcast as well… although they just knocked $50 a month off my plan

I just moved and Comcast was pretty much my only option. So far I like them a lot more than my last ISP. I get better internet (I know, they throttle but I haven’t done any heavy downloading yet) and the HDTV cable package is sweet and pretty cheap.

How did you get them to do that?

I got Comcast cable internet (we do not do cable tv) because at the time it was the only option besides dial up. Now DSL (through Qwest) is available and is much cheaper. Can anyone tell me if that means it is significantly worse? It’s not like I’m doing a lot of video or games or anything, but I do watch some tv episodes I miss and the occasional youtube.

Thoughts?

I’ve used both Comcast cable internet and Qwest DSL. Comcast will give you faster download speeds which you’ll only notice if you are using bittorrent (in which case Comcast will probably block you anyway). DSL will give you a much faster upload speed and is plenty fast for youtube or watching TV shows online or whatever. Video games will probably work better as they can use the faster upload. Plus as you say it’s much cheaper.

I’m going to be moving to Seattle in a few weeks. Can anybody suggest a good Comcast alternative in that area? (I’d prefer to hear about personal experiences with ISPs rather than hear a list of the nearest competitors.)

I have a number to one of there top reps. My future mother in law gave it to me. They gave her the discount then they gave it to me when I called.

I can give you the number… Give it a try, you never know.

FYI: Commiecast, Verizon, Adelphia, Cox and Pac Bell all sell your browsing and call history to the Thought Police. Cheers!

I had Millenium (or something like that) in Seattle and it was terrible. So you can add that to your list of ISP’s to avoid.

Me too please - I wanna see if they’ll chop my rate if I threaten to switch to their competitor here. :beam:

Most of those also randomly block your ports (or packets in this case)…as if to stop people from bit-torrenting. :stuck_out_tongue:

^I know, first hand. A buddy of mine got his service interrupted for seeding (open source stuff, at that! The nerve!), twice.

//I’m sure it does. Those bastards.

^ Doesn’t that go against net neutrality somehow? I’m especially angered that they laid the smack down on open-source.

This thread is back, namely because I found a relevant article that’s REALLY funny.
