Theft of yellow ribbon magnets off cars

Off of my parents / grandparents cars at different times / places, people have stolen the “Protect my son” yellow ribbon magnets (as my brother is stationed in Iraq) off of their cars. I know I’m not the only person here with siblings overseas; has this happened to any of you? Also, if anyone here would somehow be able to explain the logic behind something like this that would drive someone to steal them, it would be nice to hear, because I certainly cant see a truely logical reason for it.
