Thinking of getting photoshop

Ok I was a long time user of fireworks to do web grahpics, buttons, headers ect, mainly because it was cheaper than photoshop and was always getting features. It seems adobe is killing fireworks off and was thinking of moving onto photoshop, but having never even used photoshop, whats the learning curve like comming from fireworks. The last fireworks I own is Fireworks 8 right from the adobe buyout.
