This is probably a dumb question but I'm at my wit's end

Hi! I’ve run into a strange problem in Flash and thus far haven’t been able to find any information pertaining to it specifically (probably because it’s something obvious…). I’m not sure if it’s a Flash 8 bug, a problem with me or a rule I’m breaking somehow, but here goes:

I’m designing a prototype of a news fade, like what you’d find on web sites. The text is supposed to fade in and out with different information. The way I handled the prototype was to have the text on different layers, turn them into graphics and add keyframes where the alpha goes from 0%-100% and from 100%-0%. On the Flash file itself, the text works beautifully. It fades in nicely, stays there for 50 frames, then fades out.

However, when I publish the file, there is no fade at all. The text just jumps from one message to another. I tried turning them into movie clips with the same result. The text was originally dynamic text if that makes any difference, and the fades are 10 frames long (and I tried extending them but nothing changed). Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
