One thing comes to mind when looking at this layout…“2advanced”
Even though it looks nice, I think you should find a way to break away from the 2a look and develope your own style.

grr… i didnt copy 2a!.. and i dont plan on changing anything, in fact… i think mine and 2a are very different… unless you use general terms such as… they are both blue, they are both neat looking…
but, they use buildings, a darker blue, square…not slanted buttons and such, superduper flash skills…

YES MINE SAYS SUBCONTENT, 2a says sub.data… they use a dot, i dont… and its different… (if you have something else i can put there then say it… i think sub______ is appropriate)

look at the shapes…, just actually look at them… my navigation is slanted… my boxes for text… etc. have a sliced corner…mine has lots of angles, 2a is very straight and dynamic

OK, THE LOGO THING THAT I HAVE THAT IS LIKE 2A IS KINDA RIPPISH, but not a total rip… not much of a rip actually… i was toying with the circular thing for a long time, before i saw 2a…

It looks nice. I’d say the 2 sites look similar, but I’ve seen a few around with the same look… you’re not the first.
In your defence I’d say that this kind of look is almost a genre now. I like it

(also i think one highlight of this design that i am proud of are those gearlike shapes in the bottom right… i love em)

i didnt think it was 2a cause his site is much brighter…
hehe… hate to say it, but that gear thing has been done before too! Hard to be a pioneer when almost everything has been done before, but it’s not impossible. I agree with parabol when he said you have the skills to be yourself… I can see this design evolving into something more original if you work at it.

bah, hard to be original when ALMOST everything has been done… plus, when you try to be original, stuff you seen juss comes out and works its way subconciously into the piece :\
o well… i like it for version one… for v2 ill branch out a bit

i don’t notice many similarities except for the blue color scheme (which about almost every web designer uses nowadays), and you guys concentrate too much on finding some. You can really make new designers feel bad if you only critisice them…
anyway,… nice work, Hawk… i like your design a lot.
but i’d like to see it all “in action”…
but to make all those other people happy, maybe you could experiment with other colors as well but only as far as you like it…

too much about layouts being copied and stuff …
isn’t this how most people start out ???
you create your own “style” step by step … you see stuff you like
you try to copy it … you try to give it your personal touch …
its a process … at least thats the way i look at it

then choose something not in that range
lol, i dont think they look good, ive been using this blue gray for awhile
then leave it the way it is (or the way you like it). If you are sure that you didn’t copy the design from someone else, noone can tell you to change it…
