Toyota’s Woven City tests a new mobility model

Woven City is a privacy nightmare but could be helpful to an OEM desperate to be more.

That “private utopia” framing is what bugs me — if Toyota owns the sidewalks, they own the sensors, too; do we know if residents can actually opt out of being tracked in public spaces there?

“Opt out” feels kinda fake in a place where access is gated by a residency agreement.

Lol yeah

Same energy as every “city of the future” promo video tbh. wake me up when people actually live there and it’s not just a showroom.

The promo video vibe is strong, yeah — I’m more interested in the boring bits like what happens when the shuttles break than the glossy renders, do they have anything public yet on how residents actually get around day-to-day? might be wrong here.

Same, the renders are whatever — I want to see their ops plan: maintenance windows, spare parts on-site, and what the “no shuttle available” day looks like for residents. If they don’t publish even a basic service-level target and incident process, it’s basically a theme park with a commute.
