Does anyone here remember a Flash site called something like “THE PHONE”? It looked like an old payphone, and by entering numbers, you’d be taken to a different little experience (typically something ominous like a bunch of crows falling out of a tree and dying, or a vignette of the Devil doing a see no evil / hear no evil / speak no evil) that’d reveal another number to enter.
It wasn’t especially insightful, but it was artful! I don’t recall it winning any sort of FWA site of the day, but it might have. If I had to I’d date it to the first half of the 2000s. If anyone remembers something like this, let me know!
I have been noodling over this since you shared it, and I can’t think of anything. The two sites that could come close are Praystation and Yugop. They both were a collection of interesting experiments that were random.
It was mostly black, tan and crimson. When it first loaded, you were looking straight at the payphone in question, and you could hear rain pouring down someplace outside.
