This is pretty big news. Molehill is capable of making the flash player do things like this…
But flash doesn’t have a toolchain that makes 3D content as easy to work with as 2D content. Unity on the other hand, is nothing BUT 3D, and has an awesome 3D toolchain. On top of that, you can even write Actionscript in it when targeting flash player (which brings to a total of 4 possible languages you could use (C#, Opt-in strongly typed JS, and Boo being the former 3).
With unity being able to target flash player as an export environment, on top of its existing ability to target:
Native iOS
Native Android
Unity web plugin (which almost nobody has installed)
This is just absolutely huge news. If adobe were smart, they’d scrounge up the pocket change to buy Unity. I seriously doubt they have the internal resources to make a 3D toolchain this nice, and particularly not one that already comes with the ability to target iOS and Android native.
