Using the scrollbar

Is it possible to use the scrollbar on a page that has a section with alot of buttons?

What im looking to do is have a list of buttons running down a page but the movie i will be having this is is only 400px x 200px , so many of the buttons wont fit onto the screen, is it possible in any way to use the scrollbar component to be able to give the ability to scroll down to see the other buttons?

Or do u think it would be best to have a dynamic text box instead of the buttons , and use html tags for the links? If so does anybody know of a tut on how to do this, iv followed the one on this site to have the dynamic text box with scroller but that doesnt show html tags and hyperlinks.

If this doesnt make sense (and knowing me it probably wont) i can post an fla file to show u if u like.

Thanks!!:cowboy:

Hey jayb,

Try using the scrollpane component. It lets you load an external movie clip into the scrollpane.

scrollpane component is the best bet, but there are tutorials here on how to make scrollbars that might work for you as well

Thanks for the response.

Im a bit stuck on the best way to do this one. Iv tried having a play around with the scrollpane and havnt really had much joy with it, im also a little stuck on the content of the page that will be going into it, currently i have an xl sheet with a list of manufacturers and websites, in this page i want to display each of these mfrs with a clickable link to their site. Problem is there are alot of these mfrs in this file and i dont really want to create about 1000 buttons on one page.

If u look at the fla i have posted , it should help u understand a bit more. I want the user to click one of the buttons at the top ( 0- 9 , a , b , etc…) and in the empty movie clip the list of relevant mfrs will appear with the links to the sites.

Pls help me out guys

thanks

Hi jayb,

I was looking at your fla last night, but got sleepy. Take a look at this thread on scrollpanes.
