Video card review sites

I was just wondering when tech sites review video cards, why do they have diff. resolutions and diff. AF and AA settings for every benchmark they run. How do they know which one to choose? Do they just use default values? Let me know, I never understand that.

One of the better sites is http://www.anandtech.com Another good site would be http://www.tomshardware.com . There are many more, but those are the two more popular sites that deal with all kinds of hardware reviews and benchmarks

I know the sites but what I was trying to ask was how do they figure out what to test their video cards on like 4XAA/8XAF or
No AA/No AF 2XAA/4XAA.

There are tons of settings like that so how do they know which resolution to run their cards on and how to figure out the Direct3D settings.

Do they just pick the settings that most people will play on or what?
