Virtual reality tiles = walk in place

this subject was mentioned by Kirupa whe dsicussin gthe HL2 game… ithough it deserved its own post…
ok… some japanese scientists have created a moving tile system that allows one to walk omnidirectional in a vr world while actually staying in place in a room… here’s the link

I think thats awesome… technology rocks… now imagine playing an rpg and actually walking through the world… awesome…

Garh :m:

31 kb/s. But it’s coming though :beam:

Article seems cool

That would be so awesome. I think vulcan mentioned it in that HL2 thread. I got a server error while viewing the video, but I’ll definitely watch it in a bit once they get their server issues resolved

It’s good now Kirupa. Slow DL though… Once they make them a tad bit faster it will be sweet. I would start running from an elite in Halo and plow right into one of my walls.

Imagine playing Final Fantasy, you’d die of exhaustion. GTA in VR would be cool though.

Seems like those things would run out of batteries pretty quickly. Also, the guy was running at about .0000000001 miles per second.

darn!!!

I had almost the exact same idea a year ago, a circular treadmill, but mine would use hexagonal squares that would slide to the back and be picked up allowing you to stay in the same spot, but almost the same

gah! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

u would die of exhaustion if it was morrowind

hah, image that ones parents cant say you arent getting any excersize when playing video games… Youd get soo much, because you actually arent thinking about beinng tired, your thinking about the game.

It could be fun to play GTA and driving around the parks in the night, and let certain people get in the car :sure:… if u know what I mean :stuck_out_tongue:

you dawg!

:p:

Anyway, it does seem kinda dumb if you see the guy stepping at that pace…
So much for “fast paced gameplay!”
