I think on the pages where there are two images, one of them is a real picture while another is computer generated. At least that is what they said on madonion (futuremark). Either way, those pictures look pretty impressive!
that picture is crazy. They have a lot of hype ot live up to and a bit of technology to catch up with from their delay. Lets hope HL2 can deliver in the end.
Doom is a bit more photorealistic in terms of graphics, but HL2 is looking more “real” due to the environments. Dang. I can’t wait for this.
EDIT:
During his part of the presentation, he used a Powerpoint presentation to illustrate world creation, research, architecture, lighting, and concepts for the art direction of Half-Life 2. This article recreates the highlights of that presentation. Click the pictures on each page to get the full-resolution versions.
Hmmm… It looks like these might be high-res CONCEPTS rendered in Maya or Max or something…
OK, now that we are at this point in game graphics, why doesn’t someone jump out of the boat and go with VR? Give me a pair of those PCI Xpress video cards, and some stereoscopic VR goggles. We could easily just tell the machine to render two slightly different scenes (for each eye),and base it on depth, and we’d have full 3d VR!
I think VR requires too much effort. Its not as casual as just sitting down at your computer and clicking an icon twice. Also, with VR there’d be a lot of spilled sodas
My goal is that one day I could find myself a treadmill that, when I run, it acts as the equivalent of me pushing the Up arrow to run in various FPS games. That way, I can get adequate exercise while playing a computer game! I really don’t like running a few miles each day in the outdoor world/map with real T&L and specular shading
Kirupa, I totally agree. One of my friends dads wrote a program for my friend (who was a little “big boned” ), and it wouldn’t let him use the computer until he ran 2 miles on the treadmill every day. He actually got in shape!
What about something like a treadmill powered computer? Then your computer use is directly proportional to your workout - plus you’re not sucking power off the grid, ultimately saving you money!
Everyone loves those dance mats, so I wonder what they have on the drawing board
I don’t know about EVERYONE. (I’m personally not a big fan…) Personally, I’m hoping they do a glove thing or something again though. The powerglove was awesome!
