well, they are having angels and airwaves play, I guess that counts as punk… At least a little. I really want to see the academy is…, All-American Rejects, pennywise and reel big fish. 
So in 20 years, will Squishy be equal to the guy that we see today still listening to disco and rocking bell bottoms / afro / gold medallion?

Punk is more about the message than the sound.
I was born in Western Canada in the 80s so the first band that comes to my mind is DOA. Joe S***head is in politics now though but he still rocks.
I think you owe it to yourself to download some old school stuff like the Sex pistols (IMO the godfathers of punk)or as Dan said, Dead Kennedys and Black flag. Bad Religion is also one of my favorites.
Punk is a combination of sound and message. If Britney Spears all of a sudden started spewing anti government messages with a pop sound we would just think she’s crazy, not punk.
One could argue that “I’m A Slave 4 U” is an anti-government message. And yes, we do think she’s crazy.
Notice how I had nothing to add to this thread until Britney Spears came up? Yeah I’m pretty cool.
