I currently maintain a website for a local home builder and they had their website made by an intown PR company. Anyway, they are concerned with the fact that their description in Google does not accurately reflect their business.
I looked into this and made sure that the META description tags were accurate however Google does not adhere to the meta tags. I checked other engines such as Yahoo! and MSN. Yahoo does use the meta description, while MSN uses the first text found on the home page.
I then learned that Google (in all of its glorious innovation) creates a description based on a combination of the key terms used to find the site and text found in the site itself. The description their site has states that they are a “custom home builder in Las Vegas”, when in fact they are a track home builder and do not do custom homes at all. I scoured the website and no where did I find the words “custom home builder” in the text or backend code.
Is there a way to circumvent Google’s bots and make them accept a description that I want people to see?
