Weird Photoshop Eraser Problem

I am having some issues with my eraser tool in photoshop. I have used photoshop for several years and have never had a problem but I just cannot seem to find a solution to this…

When I use my eraser to erase whatever I am erasing. Its not smooth and almost looks like I have used the burn too. This is somewhat hard to explain so hopefully someone will get what I am trying to say. Anyway, I am on a Macbook Pro Intel Core Duo Laptop with 2 gigs of ram. SO I have no idea what the deal is.

It just is not smooth and it just started doing this. Anyone have any idea what the problem is?

Please help!

are you sure your eraser is set to brush, and not pencil mode ? and that your eraser brush is a standard one ?

anyways you provide very little detail, maybe post a result (pic) of that eraser gone wrong.

Its on brush. I have been using photoshop for about 6 years now. It looks very odd and yes I will indeed have to post a picture.

Have you checked the mode in the Options bar? If it’s set to anything other than Normal, then it’s likely that you’ll get weird effects similar to burning, particularly in Darken mode.

This what It looks like.

How do I change the options?

This is what I am talking about…

are you sure its the eraser tool and not just the layer you are erasing having a blending mode other than normal applied?

Positive. I have been using photoshop for a long time now and this is the first time its been doing this. I am completely baffled.

post your psd. or a example psd so it’s small in file size and easier to download. I’m thinking it might be a locked option on the actual layer that is causing the problem or the resolution of the canvas, but i need to see the file since you have been saying it’s not common.

I’ve been using photoshop for a decade, and even now I still run into weird things like this every now and then.
