There was a slight glitch in the Plesk server adminstration software. Basically, it didn’t rotate log files properly. The site and forums produce about 1-2 GB of log files a day, so unless they are compressed, processed, and deleted, they clog up the server’s total hard drive space.
I noticed a few days ago that the log files were not being rotated properly, but I let it go as a temporary glitch and sent (mt) a low-priority note stating that. In the end…yesterday to be precise, 100% of all hard drive space on the server was taken up by the log files. Since most admin features require writing to the server, I couldn’t do anything. I was a server-admin without access to any server admin tools - already half a man missing his better half.
Last night mediatemple flushed out the log files and turned apache off. SSH’ing and turning on apache seems to have worked. I have also updated plesk to the latest version, so this glitch shouldn’t occur again…I hope :beam:
So, until next time (and there will be a next time)…:ro:
