i believe eilsoe was talking about the quake 3 thread in random.
yeah, asphalt asked if I could delete a few posts in there, him and voetsjoeba had been at it again
they were afraid rev would come and yell at 'em, so I told them to take it easy with the chatting…
Rev puts the fear of God into everyone. :beam:
I think on this occasion they weren’t intentionally spamming, just trying to organise a game then realised PMs would be easier… I guess this is when something like MSN would come in handy.
Kirupa Messenger, anyone?
yeah, I guess Asphalt is deathly scared of me…
oh well… it’s good to be afraid of someone…

Kind of a ‘good cop bad cop’ thing? I believe that’s what Americans call it, anyway.
Definitely calmer in here today though.
Out of curiosity, what are people’s views on establishing a chatroom? Not as in what we think of them in general, but whether one might be beneficial for the more long winded conversations that go on sometimes? Like people wanting to set up online games etc.
I know there’s MSN, but not everyone can access that due to firewalls / work / school etc. Do we have any idea of the kind of size and bandwidth this would take?
The idea has been brought forth many times before, I am against it because I know it will just be spammerific fun time for everyone (well I can think of a few people that will be there 24/7), and that probably will suck up a lot of bandwidth.
Bandwidth was my main concern…
I guess the idea is that it would be ‘spammerific’, to keep it out of Random. Then anyone wanting to cry for attention can fritter away their time in there rather than clog up the main forum with ‘I’m going to bed now’ threads.
Maybe not a chatroom as such then… I dunno, I’m probably thinking way too advanced with an IM program.
sigh As with most things though, whilst some people would use it properly, others would abuse it.
well I for one wouldn’t use it
I’m quite comfortabel with the boards, and my post count is rising veeeery slowly, I think I have a max of 3 posts per day
I don’t mind MSN type things, but chatrooms are a bit… I guess I kind of always associate them with dodgy adults luring kids, you know? :-\
IM progs are basically 1 to 1, whereas a chatroom’s just a mess.
But the theory might have a point…
my opinions on chat/IM progs has been well established…
I haven’t seen a need that PM’s can’t solve.

Rev I want to talk to you, could you please answer your CAN?
Actually EG…
I’ve used aim, msn, and some other IM thingy… They have all been such a pain that the only reason I used them, was because it was the only way I could get to speak with my brother and mother…
so there…
pbbbbbfffffffft!

A chatroom would only be like random a few months before we started clamping down on the ridiculous stuff that was posted. The way I see it, if they are able to play quake, ut, or any other multiplayer game wherever they are, they have to be able to use an IM program.
PM’s are good for now - if not we can always use the chat room feature in m_andrews’ footer =)
Cheers!
