Wmode in netscape

ok so we all know how to make a movie background transparent (wmode=transparent). And, checking around the web, it seems that this trick only works in IE. But i know that there has to be some way to get around this - it’s such a big compatiblity issue. Any ideas? What about for making this work on a mac?
