I’m hoping someone here can give me a little insight, either on the e-commerce plugin for Wordpress, or if I should be using something TOTALLY different.
I have a client that has added a blog to a site I did a couple years back, and he wants to be able to sell products on his blog. It’s not a Wordpress blog, but I’ve suggested either Wordpress or Drupal to him. I’ve never used Drupal, but I hear good things. I’m familiar with Wordpress, so I would probably like it if he used that instead. Any thoughts on shopping cart stuff on blogs? Thanks.
I’m actually setting up an online store with the WP e-commerce plugin right now. It’s my first time using it, and I’m not done yet, so I don’t a have a ton of insight on it yet, although it seems pretty good.
One thing I’ve heard is that, although the basic plugin is free, it’s really worth spending the $15 on the “Gold” version. I haven’t done that yet, but I think I will, since I’ll need to have it connect with a payment gateway.
So far, the plugin is pretty easy to understand and style, although there are a few little things I had to mess with… (For instance, if you’re already using the ‘Thickbox’ effect for a photo gallery or something, adding this plugin can interfere with it and make it weird - let me know if you have this problem and I’ll explain how I got around it).
When you do mess with the styling and presentation of it, Firebug (or some similar tool) comes in really handy, so you can see what CSS file you need to edit, and which line applies to it.
That’s all I can really say for now… If I learn more I’ll let you know. Good luck
Wow, thanks shane. That actually tells me that I’m not totally on the wrong train of thought. I’m interesed to see how it goes through to the end for you. Sounds pretty user friendly and customizable thus far though. Thanks.
