Well, back to topic; if it only cost say $1 to register here at the forum, Kirupa would be about $18,000 richer. Now that would mean the quality of service around the forum would have to be keen; so that in turn would probably mean that some of the gurus would get paid for support, everybody would have about twice as many posts (if they had to pay to get in, make the most of it, you know), I might actually be helpful once again, etc.
So back to the question, would I pay to get in? 3 years ago, I probably would’ve said screw it, but seeing how far this forum has gotten (apparently we even have an arcade now), I would definitely pay.
ah, but you would only pay now that you know what the forums are like. As a brand new member, would you pay? 3 years ago you say no and thats probably the same now for anyone else who’s new. And those thousands of people who did register up until now registered because it was free. Would they have then if it wasnt? I seriously doubt it; not when theres so many other free forums out there which are about as good as kirupa (well, to their unkeen eyes ;)) Why pay for something when you can get it free somewhere else?
I have a hard time signing up for free things, let alone things I have to pay for. Like just now I went to a link to a news story on the washington post site but they said I had to register for free to see the story close window pffft
Or maybe…my secret plan is to get people addicted to the Arcade, and then I can start charging people to play the arcade games! That would be too evil though
I totally agree with thoriphes. I think that say just a one off payment of $1 was your membership and that gave you everything on the site forever then surely it wouldn’t be a bad thing. I think the level of help would increase like thoriphes said. I think i would of payed back when Kirup’s was on EZBoards and there were about 20 active members. But the level of service was just as good as it is now. (if im making sense)
Well, I see your point. If this forum had some trial, like first 10 posts free, I’d give it a shot, then consider from there. And Syko, you’re right, I too wouldn’t think that that number would be up there if it weren’t for free. But take somethingawful.com for example. There’s incentive to paying to be a member.
yeah I know… I actually have a login floating around somewhere (a shared login which is similar to what you get on bmn) and you can also usually get into sites like that by googling the URL and using on the link provided by google, but its just that extra step I didnt want to have to put up with stupid subscriptions.
