I searched for this and found it MAYBE mentioned in the best games thread, but there are 6 pages and I don’t have the time or patience for that right now. And this deserves it’s own thread.
I freaking love xcom. I always have. I remember my uncle was playing it one day, I must’ve been in fourth grade, well maybe closer to fifth or sixth. But I remember it seeming so complex and amazing, but after some time finding it easy and, well, still amazing.
The further implementations of the game sorta sucked. Terror from the Deep was okay, but really really hard; maybe I jsut sucked at it. But xcom is so great, it has actual fear elements in a turn based game, i mean cmon! How do you pull that off! I cant play that game alone at night…
One thing I always wanted and never ever even saw word of was xcom toys. My friend and I would spend our time in class in 6th grade thinking about it… I mean it could be sooo coool… and the money making opportunities are so limitless! Of course, the general public may not know about it, so it wouldn’t make sense to them and wouldn’t sell:P But when I get rico, that’s what I’m doing is making some awesome toys!
I mean the game made it like, something so easy: soldiers ALL look the same in the game with random names. This makes for easy production but still staying true to the game. It’s like stormtroopers! Same with the aliens, theyre like stormtroppers. Always thought one of the coolest features would be the base: it comes with what the base comes with when you start the game, and then you can add on the seperate features as you ‘research them’ ($bling bling!$ heh). And sell ‘maps’ that players put the pieces on, that can regester where each unit is at, and then the aliens are
a) kept in the small computer thing that would tell you about turns and such, and it jsut tells you when a unit can see the alien
b) there are two maps, and a barrier seperating them, and each person (aliens vs xcom) put their pieces down, with general rules (aliens have a landing/crash site, xcom troops have a ship landing site, etc.)
Each map is a custom made thing: it comes with some various buildings and such that you place down and the computer with it records their locations and keeps track of all player locations… this may be best if it were just a computer cdrom game that transfered via usb to game board…
but then you jsut buy new items and fields and stuff when you wanna make new maps… I think it would be super awesome.
Unfortunatlyu it would cost SO MUCH money and no one would buy it, its too niche… I would buy it…
