XML Guestbook not taking entries

I followed this tutorial: http://www.kirupa.com/web/xml_guestbook.htm

I posted mine and the one given at the end of the tutorial online side by side and neither are accepting entries. However, the window displays the one entry previously created in the XML file.

I have no idea what the problem is, especially since the one taken straight from the tutorial doesn’t work. Any help, please?

did you chmod your guestbook.xml? chmod the guestbook.xml to 777 and it should work fine
but the server has to support file read/write

many free host doesnt support this
