I thought my discovery of XMLSockets was the perfect way for me to enable push-functionality from a PHP server to my Flash clients. Really, all I need to be able to do is stuff like letting the player of a board game know - in real-time - when the opponent has made a move and that’s it’s now his/her turn. Simple!
But…
Why can’t I find any hosting service allowing me to set up sockets? I see absolutely no hosting solutions mentioning the possibility of setting up sockets on the server. Is this because there’s a better alternative that has rendered XMLSockets obsolete? I can’t set up a server for potentially thousands of players myself - what should I do here?
