Zooming Text/Clips: Is there an easier way?

I’ve been tweaking some code originally written by Jordan Stone (I believe it’s on Kirupa somewhere). There’s a lot of code to produce one effect and I’m wondering if anyone has bothered to simplify and refine the code. Thanks for any suggestions.
