Given that Adobe has discontinued Edge Animate to focus on Flash CC Canvas....

Is it an optimal time to resurrect the Kirupa Flash forum and tutes to focus on Canvas export with createJS?

There is a void.

I’ve only read forum posts and 3rd party speculation around this. Given the slow pace of updates to Edge Animate, that doesn’t seem surprising. Do you know if Edge being discontinued is confirmed?

Currently Adobe discontinued the development of Edge Animate. and has no plans for the future of Edge Animate. Meaning that it they stopped support of the program unofficially. The old team of Edge Animate USA got placed on project Comet and the India development team on Flash Pro

There are no longer any admins on the Adobe Edge forum, and though they are silent as to confirmation, the consensus is that Adobe has no plans to continue with Edge. If you read the bug complaints regarding Edge 2014.1 and Edge 2015, it appears they failed to get it to run on Macs even with 32 GB of ram. I am on a PC with just 4 GB of ram and have zero issues, but given how pervasive Macs are in the creative field, that would be a complete buzzkill.

I personally coming from Flash was never that happy with Animate, and I am cautiously excited about Flash CC Canvas. I think if Kirupa filled the void the legions of banner ad creators who are struggling without a timeline would follow. I have an HTML/CSS background so in theory I could just handcode, but I have way too many sizes/versions to go that route.

I just whipped one up, I converted one copy block to a bitmap, and broke apart two. Downloaded all the js files so no external files being referenced, and zipped my published files. 79K,

The people who seem the most upset about Adobe abandoning Edge for Flash CC Canvas say they never liked Flash…

I never really liked Edge.

More fuel! Adobe Flash Professional has undergone a name change and emerged as Animate: http://www.zdnet.com/article/adobe-renames-flash-professional-to-animate-pivots-to-html5/ :stuck_out_tongue:

In one of the Adobe MAX presentations the speaker said AS2 is closer to javascript. Does that mean dusting off some of my AS2 FLAs for conversion to Canvas?

#$%@*! , wow.

Interested to see what this means for Actionscript regarding this. Now all they have to do is rename a couple of other Macromedia Apps and all is forgotten.
